Updated: Oct 15
It's autumn and the warm weather is still here, but it's starting to change. Crisp mornings and evenings, harvest in full swing, and the ocean has a different motion bringing in the big waves.

Drive 20 minutes from Casa Piccadilly to Supertubos Beach, known as the European Pipeline, the main surf spot on the southern side of the Peniche peninsula in Portugal. Its tubular and fast waves are internationally renowned. Since 2009, it has hosted one of the stages of the World Surf League.
October 16 to 25, 2026 the world’s best surfers return to Supertubos for the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal Contest. The event promises elite performances from both men and women, powerful waves, and unforgettable moments on Portugal’s most famous stretch of coast.

Check World Surf League for latest updates on the Championship Tour: October 14: (see highlights about Peniche becoming a global surfing destination starting at 4:16).
For more videos, check out this interview from World Surf League in 2025 with Tiago Pires on being the first Portuguese surfer to qualify for the Championship Tour, growing up in Lisbon, the waves at Supertubos and life after the tour.

If you like watching surfing live from the beach, there are more events upcoming like the TUDOR NAZARÉ Big Wave Challenge on-call (subject to weather) November - March in Nazaré, another gorgeous beach town with great waves just 40 minutes north of Casa Piccadilly.
Come stay and be in the epicenter of all this surfing activity this autumn. Hope to see you in Portugal!
